Man (65) nabbed for love of bottle
A 65-year-old man appeared before Magistrate Mthokozisi Dlamini for drink-driving.
George Sibiya was charged with contravening section 91(1) of the Road Traffic Act 6/2007.
On January 11, 2019 around 2240 hours near Lontombi area along Crydon MR5 public road in the Manzini District, Sibiya drove a Toyota LDV registered ASD 670 DM, while under the influence of intoxicating liquor.
In his breath specimen, he recorded 1.2 mg/l, which is way above the legal limit of 0.38mg/l. In his mitigation, Sibiya said he was looking after his nieces and nephews. The magistrate asked him if he was aware of the danger that he posed on the road given his specimen readings and his age. “Ushayelelani unatsile ube umdzala kangaka,” said the magistrate.
He added that he could be fined up to E5 000 for his offence.
“You are a ticking time bomb,” said the magistrate, after he was startled by the specimen readings. Sibiya was fined E2 000 or 12 months in a correctional facility.
