Tinkhundla System has failed – Sive Siyinqaba
MBABANE – The Tinkhundla System of Government in its current form, has allegedly failed dismally to deliver an integrated decentralised national development agenda.
As a result, government needs to enact a law which will not only facilitate the registration of political parties, but also amend the election laws to allow a political party system to co- exist with the current individual merit- based system.
These are the views of Sive Siyinqaba organisation which released a statement to address the uncertain political situation and unrest in the country.
Through its chairperson, Musa Nkambule, the group said it would have been in the best interest of all if His Majesty King Mswati III had led the transformation because clear evidence had shown that transformation or change led by the Head of State was less destructive.
The organisation said the transformation led by the King was more effective with guaranteed peace, stability and prosperity for all, including the Head of State. The group further submitted that the country should allow for political parties to field candidates or independent candidates during the expected 2023 national elections.
“The revised elections law must also provide for how a cabinet including the PM come into office,” reads the statement.
Sive Siyinqaba proposed that the 2023 national elections be held under this new dispensation and that any proposed new elections law must also provide for a continuous transformational improvement of the governance system.
They stated that they recognised that a transformation of a country was not just an event but a process, therefore a call for a neutral entity or body that would mediate or co- ordinate the negotiations process.
“Sadly, what began as a noble experiment initiated by our beloved King Sobhuza 11 has landed crushingly as a classic symbol of failure of catastrophic proportions,” alleged the organisation.
