Macan gets sharper look, more power

-

Po r s c h e h a s g i v e n i t s M a c a n c o m p a c t S U V a second fa celi f t ahead of the arrival of the electric version in 2013, which will run alongside the combustion variants that you see here. Due in South Africa in January 2022, all three Porsche Macan derivatives receive a sharper l ook, revised cabin and more power.

Buyers can expect to pay R1 050 000 for the Macan, R1 271 00 for the Macan S and R1 551 000 for the GTS.

The entry model retains its four- cylinder turbocharged petrol heart, but the power output has been increased by 10kW to 195kW, making it 0.3 seconds faster from 0- 100km/ h, which now takes place in 6.2s. Moving to the middle model, the Macan S swaps its predecessor’s 3.0- litre V6 turbo unit for a detuned version of the 2.9- litre engine found in the GTS. With 280kW on tap, the Macan S has 20 kW more than its predecessor and the 0- 100 time is now listed at 4.6 seconds, which is a half- second improvement.

But t he re a l b rawn i n t he ra nge c o mes from the new Macan GTS derivative, which gains 44kW to match t he previous Turbo derivative’s 324kW output. 0- 100 now takes 4.3 seconds, which is a 0.4s improvement. There’s no word on whether there will be a new ( and presumably more potent) version of the Macan Turbo, but for now the revised GTS model certainly seems to ill its shoes.

All of the aforementioned Macan engines are paired with a seven- speed PDK dual- clutch transmission and Porsche Traction Management all- wheel drive system. Speaking of the chassis, the PASM adaptive suspension system has been retuned for all models, and the GTS is further set apart by a now- standard sport air suspension system, which lowers the vehicle by 10mm.

Compared with the previous version, the ai r s uspension i s 10 per c ent more r i gi d on the front axle and 15 per cent firmer on the back.

On the design front, the revised Macan receives a redesigned frontal section, with an inner section inished in the body’s colour, except for the GTS, which gets a black inish. LED headlights are now standard on all models.

Moving to the back you’ll see a revised diffuser design featuring a new 3D structure. Finally, buyers can also opt for some striking new colours, including papaya metallic and gentian blue, while the GTS is now available with python green.
