A C C R A - T h e G h a n a P r e m i e r League player who controversially scored two intentional own goals last weekend has been applauded for his actions, with an official investigation into the matter having been opened.

Earlier this week, a bizarre clip of Inter Allies defender Hashmin Musah scoring two deliberate own goals drew massive attention on Twitter. The player’s two strikes past his own goalkeeper sealed a 7- 0 defeat for his side in a league match against Ashanti Gold.

Later, Musah revealed that he had scored those own goals to spoil a bet that had been made against his team, comments t hat have blown open a huge matchfixing scandal that is now reportedly being investigated by the

Ghana Football Association ( GFA).

One of the GFA’s executive council members, Nana Oduro Sarfo, has now praised Musah for what he did, saying the country needs more footballers like him. “I must commend Hashmin Musah for that bold decision to score two own goals and he saved his club from disgrace,” he told Asempa FM.

“He must be recommended for spoiling the bet of the opponent. For me, he must be rewarded for helping our football and if I am the head coach for the club, I will make him the captain f or t he s i de and I will play him i n every game because I know he can help me and the club. We need such players in our game to be able to get rid of betting from our game.”

In response to the incident, both clubs denied allegations of matchfixing.
