Malanti will avoid relegation - Raymond

SITEKI – The fight is still on for Malanti Chiefs.

At least that is the spirit with c o a c h , R a y mo n d D l a mi n i , who has, despite a humiliatin­g 3- 1 defeat t o f e l l ow r e l e gat i on- t hreatened Denver Sundowns, assured t he gold and black outfit’s loyalists that they will not be relegated.

Malanti suffered the shattering defeat at KaLanga EFA Technical Centre on Wednesday afternoon. They are also last on the standings with six matches t o play i n t he MTN Premier League.

“You know we played well but missed chances which we should have converted. Otherwise, I am happy with the team and I am positive that we will not be relegated. It is a matter of t i me before we s t a r t c ol - lecting those maximum points regardless of who we play in our next league games,” said Dlamini. He said they were not even worried about relegation.

Meanwhile, Sundowns coach Artwell Dludlu said t he f act that they managed to win the Malanti game was enough for t hem t o bel i e ve t hey would s u r v i v e t h e a x e . “The b o y s played well and it is nice to get a win as it has been a while. I am positive we can build from this performanc­e and finish the season on a high note,” he said.

He said had they lost the Malanti game, it would have had a negative effect on the players. “It would kill the morale in the camp and I am happy we won. We are not off the hook yet but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel,” he added.

Sundowns had gone 12 games without a win. The l ast t i me they won a game was against Tambankulu Callies on May 1, 2021. Malanti are currently languishin­g at the bottom of the log table with only 18 points after 24 games while Sundowns jumped two places up from second from bottom to 13th on 21 points.
