- Bonisile Makhubu

MBABANE – The Office of the Prime Minister of Canada has reviewed concerns raised by emaSwati who are calling for change. Some emaSwati based in Canada wrote a letter to PM Justin Trudeau two weeks ago, seeking international intervention and calling for solidarity in the calls for change action.

“We reminded the Canadian Government of their continued commitment towards the values of democracy and good governance in Canada and abroad. We look forward to hearing from Hon. Marc Garneau on the actions he will be taking going forward,” the members of the Swazi- Canadian Diaspora Network said.

A letter believed to have been written by Executive Correspondence Officer identified as K. Bentsen, acknowledges receipt of the formation’s correspondence of July 14, 2021 which was sent to the PM regarding civil unrest in Eswatini.

“Thank you for writing to the prime minister. You may be assured that your comments, offered on behalf of the Swazi- Canadian Diaspora Network, have been carefully reviewed.”

Bentsen also told the recipients of the letter that he had taken the liberty of forwarding their email and attached letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Marc Garneau so that he could be aware of the correspondence.

EXPRESSED

Members of the Diaspora had also expressed concerns about the Sibaya platform, saying it was not a legitimate conflict- resolution forum.

“We hope the rest of the inter national community will also take a stand and help support our anticipated transition towards a democratic dispensation. Thank you all for your continued support. Please continue to sign and circulate our petition and add your voices.”

Efforts to get comment from Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Thuli Dladla were not successful.

Acting PS Vuyile Dlamini was also not reachable. The ministry’s communications officer was also not available for comment.

The Diaspora will be hosting a virtual meeting on the evolution of democracy governance in Eswatini at 5: 30pm today.
