‘ I call for change’

CHANGE is constant. Change is future. Change is matter. I’ve been consistently studying the matter that was happening here in Eswatini and I realised that change is vital.

As a young person, I’m hoping for a sustainable development in my life and of course change. I mean we all wish for such but that needs an action. I’m reminded of a chat I once had with an ex- drug abuser, who is now a renowned writer, a motivational speaker and a writing coach. He was basically sharing his life journey with me, how he changed his life for his betterment.

He told me that he used to take drugs and he slowly became addicted to them. Addiction is not an easy case but one day he woke up and told himself that “No! This is enough I want change in my life”. He knew that taking drugs would not secure him any good future. I bet he wouldn’t be here today if he chose to remain in that situation.

OPPORTUNITY

As a young motivational writer, I suggest that as the youth we must not be suppressed by anyone. If moulding your future requires a fight then go for it. I always say that never let anyone suppress your dreams_ they are yours and no one elses!

We create our own future. Don’t let any opportunity slip away from you. You only live once and opportunities are rare so whenever you bump into one grab it and never let go. The life we want to live, we plant it, prune it when the time for that comes we see the fruits. Fight tooth and nail to get the future you’ve always been dreaming about. Be determined, have self- discipline. Determination teaches discipline.

Learn to educate yourself. Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world “. As powerful and insightful as it might sound, many people got it all wrong. A lot of African parents started getting their children into expensive schools hoping that they’ll get more value. They even sent them into boarding schools to get expensive education expecting magic from their children. We have people who focus a lot on getting more certificates than knowledge. Education isn’t about that. True, certificates open doors for us but be educated in the matters of situations, how to reach another level. Some people weren’t born academically gifted but they’ve worked hard and founded their own businesses.

AWAKENING

The young bloods are awakening and you can tell that they mean business. What occured in Eswatini this past weeks has been heart shattering. It is heart breaking and infuriating as young people to see graduates with good qualifications sitting on their certificates as the government is not willing to employ them. Instead you see some people who are past their retirement age being given positions.

_ In recent weeks, the kingdom has been engulfed by a string of protests and violent actions. It would seem that the # JusticeforThabani protests have triggered a domino effect, triggering a massive riot of wanting freedom. The passing of Thabani allowed the youth to have a platform to speak on many of the other issues concerning them_ like the current state of unemployment in which many of them are in_ like their involvement in politics among other things.

Psychologically, similar rage fuelled toward the earlier aforementioned case has been also used to fuel the voices , challenging the status quo and calling for change. However, in the same breath I want to encourage my brothers and sisters to also thrive to change their own life, start a small business if possible. Nothing beats being a CEO of your own business even if it is a vegetable business.

Even though the youth wants to be heard, it is vital to ensure that they do not engage too aggressively with the stakeholders involved while they are at it, make sure that your conduct is exemplary for the next generation when tasked with problem solving, decision making and bringing new ideas to the table.

Destroying properties won’t help in any way but making yourselves look like fools who don’t even care about their own future. As much as our leaders don’t share any feasts which they discover with us, there’s no need for violence. There comes a time when peace has to be fulfilled by peaceful means. I’m not saying this in a bad way. We all have our own choices in the way we want to live our lives. We live the life we choose for ourselves.
