B EIN G passionate is important in life, but it also can be diffi- cult to deal with. Just like with all good things, too much of it can be dangerous. However, passionate people, overall, do live happier and better lives than the average individual. Passion gives us purpose, but more than that, it makes us feel that we have purpose in our lives. Being passionate isn’t just about knowing – it’s also about feeling. That’s what makes passions so important; they make us feel that we’re on the right path in life and give us hope for a happy and exciting future.
Passionate people lead significantly different lives from their lessthan- enthusiastic counterparts.
This week GCWALA caught up with one of the young and passionate people.
Siphokazi Mkhonto who is the former Miss Eswatini contestant and she is a nurse.
She takes us into her world full of positivity and opportunities.
Who is Siphokazi?
A personification of a gold digger; a success story yet to be told. Siphokazi, full name Nonsikelelo Fluphia Siphokazi Mkhonto, is a young liSwati holding a certificate in nursing. She’s passionate about art, photography, travelling, winery affairs, fashion and any things else that screams for creativity.
What feeds your creativity?
In as much as creativity is highly subj e c - tive, I believe the edge to trying something new pushes me to becoming even more creative in a sense that even if they do fail to achieve the desired ‘ craft’. I gain more knowledge and skills at the end of it all. Also, I spend most of my time alone plus I’m an over thinker so yes, I don’t view objects normal. I always see a potential craft like that pair of shoes would look better with bling. I did mention earlier that I love travelling, going out to somewhere serene and getting fresh air, taking walks and better yet challenging myself gives me the time to notice the world around me and gain more inspiration in as far my creativity is concerned.
What are you currently doing and what motivated you to be a nurse?
Currently, I’m as a full- time nurse but also managing my side hustle business called ‘ The empress pionic plug and bag impressions’. We basically do event party planning service ‘ picnic themed’ and sell trending mini bags. Choosing nursing as a career stamps from the fact that I needed something that was somehow challenging but still interesting and most importantly, something that makes a difference in peoples lives daily.
What challenges have you faced during the ongoing COVID- 19 pandemic?
Is that question posed to Siphokazi personally or the nurse, either way I’d say since the onset of the COVID- 19 outbreak, its an undeniable fact that social, political and economic consequences have been caused in the country and worldwide of course. I personally had to adapt to the new normal, social distancing quarantine and yes masks not forgetting that it brought about curfews at some point, limiting movement. I remember one time I couldn’t go home, because we had a case at work. Life still isn’t normal really, it’s slow. I can’t do my business since gatherings are banned.
What do you fear the most as a healthcare worker?
Among many valid reasons in the COVID- 19 pandemic, I still mostly fear contracting the virus, fear of carrying the virus home and infecting family and friends but again I still find strength in the fact that I got both dress of my COVID- 19 vaccine, so risks ain’t as much as long as I follow necessary regulations.
The fear of failing to provide adequate care for pts given the resources is one that can’t be overlooked.
Why do you love your job?
If there’s one profession that never stops giving is nursing and I love that about it. You get to learn new things every day, hence the opportunity for growth is almost unlimited. I feel so good inside when I see my patients improving and my mother usually says ‘ every time you wake up to work and you have patients to attend to, count that as a blessing.’ I am still counting my blessings daily, and guess what? I’m getting paid for that. I thank God for this opportunity He has given me.
What gives you fulfillment?
Fulfillment comes from witnessing your own growth. Honestly, so yes challenge yourself to grow, improve your knowledge, improve your skills, even if it means going back to school. Upgrade yourself ! I’m one person who is working towards furthering her studies, get a degree or even higher. On another note, I enjoy in engaging in activities of giving back. I fully support charity work, one of the classic example is Illa PenBoy’s campaign called # FeedKidsEswatini that gives me ultimate joy. I stand
