‘ It’s a lucrative business’

-

MBABANE – IT specialist and technology businessman Sabelo Vilakati said as much as the business model makes a lot of sense, it however leaves the issue of security glaring as the vetting process for clients might not be as clear.

Vilakati said the business model was very lucrative and has other opportunities that the sex workers could exploit online such as sex chats.

“This could be extremely lucrative for the local sex workers and they will get lots of customers as we all know that life is now on the internet and most people did not like to go out at night lest they are seen on the red streets,” he said.

Vila kati further highlighted the legalities attached to the trade and said the sex workers could also be exposing themselves to litigation and further danger as the verification of clients might be a bit tedious and others will give false information.

MAKING PHYSICAL CONTACT

“This will also expose them to other dynamics of the business such as selling their sex without making physical contact with their clients. Nowadays ladies sell their nudes and some might get booked just for sex chats. Clients will access their services at a press of a button but this might also be dangerous because some might be chancers,” he added.

When contacted for comment, Communicat i ons Officer at t he Ministry of I nformation, Communication and Technology ( ICT) Gugu Nkambule referred all comments to the Ministry of Justice. She said the ministry is still waiting for the promulgation of The Computer Crime and Cybercrime Bill.
