July 25, 2021 for Mdu Ntuli. But then the list is endless, I just love funny people.

Locally?

I ’ l l g o f o r Mdura, t h i s d u d e i s smart and funny, a good storyteller, then Thembela ‐ one person who can do stand‐ up without scripting it.

A n o t h e r f u n n y h u ma n b e i n g wi t h h i s p u n c h l i n e s i s Ndos h , Dr S hakes wit h hi s humourous memes. I enjoyed the last comedy show I attended. Macfiga and Mr Cappucino are my new favourite comics of late.

Your comedic style is unique. where do you get t he i deas or material from?

The i deas j ust show up. For i nstance, I may look ok or think of something and be like, ke, oh that’s funny t hen boom I script cript i t and create something funny. ny.

I also t hink t he Holy Spirit i s helping me on this one. I never think hard to create humour, it just happens.

One of your latest atest videos accumulated over 13k views in a space of a week... k... are you cautious of how ow youc ra f t yo u r j o ke s a t times even when en other comedians s don’t d a r e t o t o u c h o n a part i c ul a r s ubj e c t , especially politics? itics?

I f e e l l i k e w h e n y o u c r e a t e j o k e s you’ve to be funny nny and smart. I’m not a political comedian dian per se but if I ever do a political j oke, I make sure that at i ts not directed to o anyone. Someone told m me in a comment that tha t h e r e ’ s o n l y one blanket in i jail, so yo you have to b be c a ut i ous. ous I also t ry r not to ofo fend anyany one wit with my craft craft. What’ What’s y o u r writi ng n s t y l e like?

I don’t don like telling a lot of unnecessary stories on the premise, so what I do is I write the joke and master it so that I perform it the way it is on the scripts. So I always ask myself about the importance of every sentence, if it’s not important, I eliminate it.

Best joke you ever wrote and why?

I once wrote a joke about the difference between white people and black people on labour and delivery. This is my best joke because it always gives the best laughs in return, which is an af irmation by the audience that the joke ‘ landed’ really well LOL…

How do you think the local comedy industry has changed over r the years, including society’s perspecpective on whether one can take e up comedy as a career path?

Uhm… from my view, people e are loving stand‐ up comedy lately y and t he t urn up i s amazing but t hen comedy is not paying for now, you can’t survive with it alone.

How long does it take for you to prepare for a show?

Usually two hours depending on how long it will be.

Did you choose comedy or comedy chose you?

I think comedy chose me. I discovered that I’m funny, then because of that, I decided to do stand‐ up comedy.

Are you single or taken?

The Lord is worthy to be praised. sed.
