Golfer Roger wins Leg of Lamb
MB A B A N E – G o l f e r R o g e r Kunene was t he winner of t h e we e k l y L e g o f L a mb competition.
The tournament which attracted 38 golfers was played at the Mbabane Golf Course on Thursday.
Kunene won the tournament after carding a score of 21 points. Coming second was Sibusiso Shongwe on a score of 19 points after a countback. Veteran golfer Sam ‘ Styles’ Richards completed the top three bracket also with 19 points after a countback.
A countback is a way to separate tied players after the conclusion of a competition. It does not involve playing any more holes, only number crunching by t he competition secretary. In an 18- hole event, ties are separated by the best score over the final nine holes.
MADE IT TO THE TOP FIVE
Mb a b a n e G o l f C l u b m e m b e r Sandile Chonco was in the fourth spot with 19 points while Thapel o Mohapeloa also made i t t o t he top five after carding a score of 19 points.
On sixth was Nosmilo Kgomo with 18 points af t er a countback. The results were released by Mbabane Golf Club Captain Fisiwe Vilane yesterday.
“The tournament was a success as it attracted close to 40 golfers. We usually record around 20 to 30 golfers on normal basis. It is good to see that the competition is not won by one golfer every week. This means that there is competition which is good for the sport. This competition works as a practice for the weekend major tournaments,” Vilane said.
