MP Lorraine fears for her life after arrest of colleagues

- BY SITHEMBILE HLATSHWAYO

MBABANE – Lubombo Region woman Member of Parliament ( MP) Lorraine Nxumalo says she now feels unsafe following the arrest of her colleague.

This follows Nxumalo’s conversation with the National Commissioner of Police, William Tsitsibala Dlamini, shortly after the arrest of Hosea MP Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza yesterday.

The recorded conversation went viral on social media platforms, where Nxumalo called Dlamini, informing him that she had received a call from her colleague ( Mabuza) informing her that he was being arrested at his homestead.

Arresting

Nxumalo raised her fear as a female MP that police were now arresting them. She wanted to know from the commissioner what her colleague had done, especially because she was a member of his portfolio committee.

She enquired regarding her safety and wondered if the police were committing a crime by arresting Mabuza.

Nxumalo confirmed that the circulating conversation was between herself and the NATCOM. She said she feared being arrested for being an MP, adding that she was not at all feeling safe following Mabuza’s arrest for merely speaking on behalf of his constituents.

Meanwhile, the NATCOM also responded during the recorded audio pleading that they should not discuss the matter with the Lubombo woman MP because it was now in court. He said he also had no clue what the charges were. Nxumalo was elected into the House of Assembly by other MPs to add to the number of women MPs.
