Shona Ferguson dies of COVID- 19
MB A B A N E – B o t s w a - nan- born Actor, Executive Producer and co- founder of Ferguson Films Shona Ferguson has died.
The 47- year- old Ferguson, whose names are Aaron Arthur; succumbed to COVID- 19- related complications yesterday, according to a statement released by Ferguson Films.
He was admitted to the Milpark Hospital in South Africa. “It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Mr Shona Ferguson. Mr Ferguson’s untimely passing was due to COVID- 19- related complications and not a heart operation as reported in the media,” read part of the statement.
In the statement the Ferguson family requested to be given time to process this loss and also have their space respected during this time.
Family Spokesperson Thato Matuka and Media Liaison Officer Tshwane Malope jointly said more details would be shared in due course. Ferguson was married to renowned Actress Connie Ferguson and together they have a 19- year- old daughter, Alicia Angel Ferguson.
The couple tied the knot in 2001 and they appeared together in films including Rockville, The Queen and The Wild. “He started the production company Ferguson Films with his wife Connie Ferguson in 2010, who both starred in the company’s first TV production, Rockville.”
Some of Ferguson’s appearances were in Isidingo: The Need and Scandal.
Wikipedia reports that in 2020, Ferguson made his Netflix debut, partnering with the streaming service on the six- part series, ‘ Kings of Joburg’. Ferguson’s early career started in Lesotho in 1992 where he was a club DJ at The Palace Hotel Night Club.
BUSINESS
When he eventually moved back to Botswana he focused to the corporate world and landed in the
IT business. “Having started as a salesman, he worked his way up to become a respected businessman where he won multiple achievement awards, including Top Sales Manager Award 1998- 99 while working at EDUTECH.”
CAREER
He started his acting career as Ace on the South African TV series Generations and joined the South African Venda soap opera Muvhango as Dr Leabua in 2006, a role that reportedly gained him fame. He then starred as Itumeleng from 2011– 2013 on The Wild, an M- Net soap opera before he along with wife Connie established Ferguson Films.
Ferguson Films has also produced iGazi, The Gift, The Throne, The Herd, The River and The Imposter. The deceased’s boasts awards that include the Golden Horn for Best Actor in TV Soap and Golden Horn for Best Achievement by a Lead Actor in a Made for TV Movie.
