Hope for schools’ reopening as teachers vaccinate ...

MBABANE - In emphasizing the severity of the third wave, which is claiming lives of emaSwati r a p i d l y a n d d e p i c t i n g h i g h numbers in new daily cases, Mi n i s t e r o f E d u c a t i o n a n d Training Lady Mabuza even suggested that teachers should wear two masks, much to the amusement of the stakeholders.

She said the country had done so much in implementing preventative measures and people were following them correctly, but that was seemingly not enough to stop the spread if the infection rate of daily new cases and mortality were rising rapidly.

“If it is possible, teachers might as well put on two masks to prevent the spread of the disease because all the ef forts put in minimising the spread are not enough looking at the numbers,” she said.

The minister then advised the educators not to pay attention to the myths and negative things shared about the vaccine as the information shared particularly on social media, was not true.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the minister reiterated her sincere gratitude to the American ambassador for their generous support by providing vaccines for the educators.

SNAT President Mbongwa Dlamini said the vaccine couldn’t have come at a better time as the educators needed to get vaccinated and prepare for class resumption. He said hopefully, classes would resume after the vaccination exercise as the educators had the task of making up for the lost time.

Dlamini emphasised that teachers should not then be reckless after taking the vaccine but should continue to adhere to the COVID- 19 regulations so as to protect scholars and their relatives.

EPA President Welcome Dlamini encouraged head teachers to lead the way, stating that a true leader was one who leads the way in times like these.

He said there had been myths and negativity about the vaccine shared on social media and other platforms but that should not discourage pupils from taking the jab as it was effective.

“We miss the pupils, we all want to go back to class now but we should do that having taken the vaccine as it is our only chance of fighting off the disease,” he said.
