8 die of COVID- 19, 464 new cases

MBABANE – Government yesterday reported eight deaths a n d 4 6 4 c a s e s o f COVID- 19.

Four males and four women died of complicati­ons caused by the virus.

Mini s t e r o f Heal t h Li z z i e Nkosi said t here were 1 076 people who went for the tests, of which 464 contracted t he virus.

On Friday, there were seven people who died of illnesses precipitat­ed by the virus. The death toll is now 787.

The minister said there were 25 979 cumulative cases of COVID- 19 i n t he country against 20 918 recoveries, with 4 274 active cases.

Nkosi reported that 248 people were admitted f or t r eatment. There are 38 326 people wh o h a v e b e e n v a c c i n a t e d against COVID- 19 while 27 341 have received the first and second doses.

The Ministry of Health continues to rollout the vaccinatio­n programme as the number of people dying and contractin­g the virus is increasing day by day.

Before schools open, the ministry has deemed it appropriat­e to vaccinate the teachers.

Wear a mask consistent­ly and correctly. This protects others from getting infected, which eventually protects you as an individual.

Wash your hands with soap and running water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol based hand sanitiser to clean your hands.

Watch your distance by making sure that you keep at least one metre away from another person.

Avoid the “Three Cs: closed spaces with poor ventilatio­n; crowded places with many people near each other and close- contact settings such as close- range conversati­ons. A combinatio­n of these 3 Cs results in a high transmissi­on of the virus.

Opt for the outdoors – this is always better than indoors. Should there be a need to hold a function, it should be in line with COVID- 19 regulation­s.
