Cops to MPs: Report

MBABANE – Police urge MPs and others who are receiving threats from social media users to prefer charges at nearest police stations. Nosipho Mnguni, the Deputy Police Informatio­n and Communicat­ions Officer, said the MPs should produce evidence that they were threatened with violence.

She said they should report even their tormentors who used fake names to open Facebook accounts. Mnguni pointed out that they would use their skills to investigat­e all cases brought to their attention, whether the person used a fake account or not.

She warned people against making threats because it is a criminal offence to do so.

At least nine MPs received threats yesterday morning. Their names will not be published for ethical and legal reasons.

Meanwhile, Manzini North MP Macford Sibandze said the article which appeared in an online newspaper was meant to scandalise his name.

PLOTTING TO KILL

The article suggested that he and others wanted to have guns to defend themselves from attacks. The article was portrayed and understood to mean they were plotting to kill the people who elected them to Parliament.

However, one person came to the defence of the MPs yesterday. His name is Roger Ntimandze. He said: “the MPs were right; it’s just that we treat matters wrongly. They need to protect themselves because the call for transforma­tion has been hijacked by hooligans. Let them defend themselves.”

Meanwhile, the Manzini North MP said the article was written as if there was a motion in the House, which he had raised to talk about the issue of the guns.
