Saga of arrested MPs

-

Madam,

No one could have ever i magined that the Tinkhundla political system would go to the extreme of compromising the protected space provided by Parliament hence hitherto no one could be sued, prosecuted or punished for their utterances in the legislative chamber. Consequently, t he veneer of Tinkhundla’s so- called democratic credentials has been removed and the system left naked for what it really is, undemocratic.

Breaching the sanctity of Parliament, which apparently was the flagship of the Tinkhundla political system as an outcome of the so- called grassroots democracy of electing lawmakers on individual merit- based tickets since political parties remain outlawed in this country, has fatally exposed the system as nothing but a farce concealing a regime whose modus operandi is divide and rule.

As an experiment t he Tinkhundla political system has failed the nation hence a majority of the people is enslaved by poverty. For these masses the First World vision is akin to the erection of a wall that will separate them from the elite for whom the status is meant. It is therefore inconceivable for the people to have willingly alienated and annulled the injunction that God created all men and women in His image by abdicating their inalienable freedoms and liberties to an earthly institution. On the other hand, it has been known f or t he e l i t e e nj oying unfettered powers to usurp and arrogate to themselves the right to speak and think for the people in perpetuity. However, that the people cannot do anything about their circumstances does not legitimise the overthrow of their individual and collective inalienable rights and liberties to determine how they want to live, be governed and, above all, determine their destiny.

The Tinkhundla political system is i ncapable of s hame because i t has no moral bearing and its legitimacy remains questionable. The saga of the arrested Members of Parliament has also confirmed the long held suspicion that it is the state that sanctions the persecution by security agents of individuals who speak ill of the system.
