Mabaso opens up on Pirates challenge

JOHANNESBU­RG – Orlando Pirates midfiel der Abel Mabaso s a ys his t eam i s l ooking forward t o improving their performanc­e in the league this coming season.

Pirates finished in position three on the DStv Premiershi­p log last season, behind both Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu.

The Buccaneers are set to return for a second successive season to the CAF Confederat­ion Cup after being booted out by Raja Casablanca in last season’s quarterfin­als.

The Soweto g i a n t s h a v e a l r e a d y confirmed the arrival of four players to boost their squad for the new season, though midfielder Monnapule Saleng has since been shipped out on loan to Swallows FC.

Mabaso has hailed the spirit in their camp during the pre- season training and promised the Ghost a better outcome in the 2021/ 22 campaign.

“In terms of the new players, we are helping everybody to integrate into the team. The spirit is good. It is in a positive way,” Mabaso told KickOff. com.

“We want to put good work ( in during the pre- season training) so that we can be well prepared for the upcoming season.

“Definitely t he aim i s t o i mprove ( our position) from last season. Definitely, the improvemen­t will be above position three, so that is the important task to improve where we left off last season and the season before.”
