King declares 3- day fast
MBABANE – His Majesty King Mswati III has once again proclaimed a three- day national prayer and fast.
Fasting, according to the Bible, means to voluntarily reduce or eliminate your intake of food for a specific time and purpose.
The King made the proclamation through Minister of Home Affairs Princess Lindiwe, in a press conference held at Ludzidzini Royal Residence yesterday.
According to the minister, the nation was urged to fast and pray at home starting on August 26, 2021 until August 28, 2021. She said the purpose of the fast was to pray for the healing of Eswatini.
Dlamini stated that among the items that would be prayed for were peace, unity and preservation.
She said the country would also pray for the eradication of COVID- 19.
Worth noting is that there has been no treatment for the virus since it was discovered in Wuhan, China in November 2019. The minister said the country would be praying for arresting the spread of the virus. She said the nation would also pray for God’s protection and the comfort of frontline workers.
She also encouraged those on COVID- 19 medication to eat vegetables to sustain themselves.
The minister mentioned that the nation would pray for economic recovery and national prosperity.
She stated that the country would pray for significant investments to take place in all sectors for economic growth, employment and economic recovery and acceleration.
Mercy
“We will pray for God’s mercy and protection individually and as a nation. Psalms 91: 15 reads that: “He shall call upon me and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honour him.”
The minister said the fasting would culminate in a prayer service which would be held virtually on August 28, 2021.
She stated that pastors would be afforded an opportunity to share the Word of God and pray through all the local media and social media channels.
She said the theme of the fasting was ‘ I will give you peace like a river’.
Present at the press conference were
church leaders including President of the League of Churches Bishop Samson Hlatjwako and President of Conference of Churches Apostle Robert Kasaro among others. This is not the first time the Head of State proclaimed days for a national fasting and prayer amid COVID- 19.
The King once called for a national fasting after a recommendation from concerned citizens.
