Mother of child with albinism overwhelme­d with gratitude

MBABANE – The woman who was chucked out after giving birth to a baby with an albinism condition is currently overwhelme­d with gratitude.

This comes after a number of people saw her story and offered to assist her.

*Martha has shared that she has been receiving phone calls from people offering help since her plight was published.

The 35yearold woman from Nkoyoyo had to spend three nights in a tunnel with her newborn after giving birth to a child with albinism.

Martha was allegedly kicked out of the rented flat she shared with the father of her two children soon after she gave birth to their second child, who has albinism.

Help

First to offer help was Mabel Nxumalo who is employed at the Municipal Council of Manzini.

Nxumalo said she was going to meet with Martha today and share her interest in adopting the baby.

“I was touched by the story and would love to offer whatever help I can to the mother and the baby,’’ said Nxumalo She further mentioned that she would meet with the mother and discuss how they were going to help her.

Also extending a helping hand was President of the Federation of Disabled Persons (FODSWA) Sipho Dlamini, who said he had mobilised a number of prominent people like Clinical Psychologi­sts Ndo Mdlalose to help.

“We were really touched by the story and want to do something to help this woman and her baby. We have scheduled a visit with her today just to ascertain the situation,’’ he said.

Assist

Dlamini said they would not yet mention the exact help they were going to give to the woman and her child.

Stukie Motsa, President of the Stukie Motsa Foundation which caters for people with albinism, also mentioned her interest in offering help to the mother.

Motsa had asked to be furnished with the mother’s numbers so she could contact her.

The mother mentioned that she was hugely thankful for the help offered to her.

“I’m grateful for the help and it will go a long way. People have been calling and it has been so overwhelmi­ng. Im thankful,’’ said the mother.
