Mazda CX-5 update revealed
ENGINE performance remains unchanged. The entry-level model gets a weather-resistant surface for the boot. Thanks to new software, the crossover is better suited to off-roading.
The Mazda CX-5 has been given a minor update for 2022, which includes a number of styling revisions and features. This facelift comes four years after the generation was introduced to the global market.
New to the updated Mazda CX5, the brand’s next generation of Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture which, as per the brand’s claims, provides improvements to the crossover’s bodyshell, suspension and seats to enhance ride comfort and reduce fatigue.
The front of the Mazda CX-5 features a new three-dimensional grille and signature wing design. Both head- and taillamp clusters have also been restyled. Within the European markets, the Japanese crossover introduces three new trim levels that boast different styling cues.
Kicking off the range is the Newground trim, which boasts silver underguard-style treatment to the front and rear bumpers and door garnishes, black door mirrors and lime green accents to the front grille. This model can be had with 17‐inch silver or 19‐inch black diamond‐cut alloy wheels while the interior is kitted out with suede upholstery with lime green stitching.
The Sport Black trim offers a gloss black inish to the front grille, signature wing, lower bumper sections, wheel arches, door garnishes and door mirrors. 19‐inch alloy wheels are inished in black metallic paint and the front grille incorporates red accents. Red stitching trims the black leather seats, steering wheel, gear shift lever and door panels.
The lagship GT Sport trim combines a single-colour exterior that is complemented by a brilliant gloss paint of the bright silver 19‐inch alloy wheels.
The interior features Nappa leather upholstery supported by genuine woodgrain trimmings.
Key safety features included in the cabin of the Mazda CX-5 update consist of a wireless Qi phone charging tray in the centre console. The two-piece, reversible loadspace loorboard and the tailgate sill are on the same level to aid loading. Newground models also feature a loorboard with a water‐resistant side for wet or dirty items.
