Local designers to keep sector alive
MBABANE - Despite the current COVID-19 pandemic, local designers are determined to keep the sector alive through their designs.
Sky Wear was officially launching a summer collection at 23:28 Lounge on Saturday.
The event was attended by a limited number of people due to the current hosting regulations. Despite the chilly weather, models braved the cold and showed off breath taking designs. The collection had different trendy pieces.
It had swimwear, crop tops, vest, and underwear’s for both males and females. The first walk had more than six different summer inspired crop tops. Judging by the screams and applauses, fashion lovers loved the collection. It is worth noting that they also looked the part as they rocked different the looks. Some pieces were customised with a touch of vintage. Speaking to the founder of the fashion house Nokwanda ‘Sky’ Sithole, she could not help but express her excitment for the event. She said the collection was inspired by her love for the summer season. “The name of the collection is Sky Wear Summer Collection. It’s basically everything summer, since we’re already welcoming that warm season.
Season
It was inspired by my love for the summer season. It is by far my favourite season of the year,” she said.
She went on to share the challenges she has faced. Sithole also mentioned how the pandemic halted some of her plans which included hosting a big fashion show. “I think the most important thing in the fashion industry is to be creative and bring something new that people will be excited to see and buy, so I had to carefully consider what people want and what people will be excited to buy. One huge challenge is that I couldn’t make the fashion show to be as big as I wanted it to be. “I had to keep it small, since strict COVID-19 regulations are in place. People can order with me. They can contact me directly or through my Facebook page: Sky Wear or Instagram page: skywear_eswatini then I’ll deliver to them after they order,” she added. The day ended on a high note with people taking pictures and some already placing orders.
