2 nabbed for armed robberies

MANZINI – On Monday, police arrested two men for allegedly committing two robberies in the past weekend.

According to a police report released by Chief Police Informatio­n and Communicat­ions Officer Superinten­dent Phindile Vilakati yesterday, on September 20, at 3pm, Manzini police arrested and charged two men in connection with two armed robbery cases.

The pair; a 34-year-old man of Fairview North and a 24-year-old of Mponono, reportedly robbed a 42-year-old man of Makholweni of his motor vehicle, a Nissan March valued at E30 000, and cellphone worth E2 500 at gunpoint while at Fairview. This happened on September 19 at 11pm.

It was further stated that on the same day at 11:30pm, a 55-year-old man of Eveni was robbed of E4 500 cash at gunpoint while at Manzini Nazarene Total Filling Station. Vilakati said the suspects would appear at the Manzini Magistrate­s Court.

Notable

It should be noted that there has been a notable number of armed robberies in Manzini in the past few weeks. For the month of September alone, the magistrate­s court has had over 30 crime incidents which have been reported to the police.

Recent robbery cases include two cases and one of stock theft, which were reported to the police.

About a fortnight ago, two armed men allegedly stole E15 000 at the Total Filling Station situated near Riverstone Mall in the hub. It was gathered that the men stole the money from the till.

Meanwhile, a man from Bhunya was arrested for attempted robbery in that upon or about September 5, 2021 at or near Mangcongco area in Manzini, the accused did wrongfully and intentiona­lly draw a gun and threatened to shoot someone using force and violence to induce fear and demanded money, thus committed the said offence.
