Dvokodvweni Inkhundla of ice petrol‐bombed
SITEKI – The office of Dvokodvweni Inkhundla Headman Mayibongwe Dlamini was on Tuesday night petrolbombed by unknown arsonists.
According to the constituency indvuna, they only found out about the incident on Tuesday morning and police officers from the Mpaka Police Station were called to the scene of crime.
This is the second petrol bomb incident to take place in a space of five days.
During inspection of the extent of damage caused by the fire, Dlamini said they found out that the bottle used for the mission got stuck between the burglar bars on the window and the fire only caused damage to the office, resulting in a computer, chair, table and documents being burnt.
Arsonists
The indvuna stated that they discovered that the arsonists failed to torch the other offices in fear that they could be found at the scene of crime.
He said they were not suspecting anyone, but police were still conducting their investigations.
“It is an unfortunate situation that has happened to the constituency following another at Siphofaneni as it seems the people behind this target the offices of tindvuna. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the arson,” he said.
Superitendent Phindile Vilakati, the Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, said police were still investigating.
Meanwhile, Minister of Tinkhundla Administration and Development David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala will tomorrow morning tour the inkhundla to determine the damage caused by the arsonists.
Today, the minister will be touring the Sithobelweni Inkhundla to establish the damage also caused by unknown arsonists.
This publication reported on Monday that the office of Sithobelweni Constituency headman and that of the secretary, within the inkhundla structure, were petrol-bombed in an attempt to burn the centre.
According to the Member of Parliament (MP), Bhekitje Dlamini, this happened in the wee hours of last Saturday.
Bomb
It was gathered that the arsonists broke some window panes and threw a petrol bomb, supposedly with the hope that it would burn the documents on the filing cabinets and lead to the whole building being set alight.
The MP said: “There was a two-litre container found with petrol while other broken bottles were found inside the structure. There was also a tyre which we suspect was to be set alight and thrown inside as well.”
The legislator said seemingly the arsonists were targeting to destroy the whole structure. This, he said, baffled them as the constituency representatives because the centre was meant for public use and to assist in hosting meetings that would address their needs.
