Moya Centre donates school uniforms

MBABANE – Some pupils at schools around Lobamba Lomdzala will be donning new uniforms this summer.

This comes after a donation of new school uniforms by Moya Centre, which prides itself in strengthening the future of Eswatini through the nurturing of children.

Moya Centre distributed school uniforms to three primary schools last week.

The uniform distribution is an initiative that the centre does annually to support orphaned and vulnerable children.

The centre will continue to distribute uniforms to other local primary schools this week.

Targeted

According to Notsile Nkambule, who is the Communications, Resource Mobilisation and Events Manager, the schools that have so far been targeted include Lobamba Primary School, Esitjeni Primary School, Mahlanya Primary School, Mphetseni and Bethany primary schools among others.

“The organisation identifies pupils who are in need of assistance through guidance teachers allocated in the different primary schools around Lobamba Lomdzala. The guidance teachers are responsible for informing the centre which pupils are vulnerable in the schools as well as identifying the areas of need,” said Nkambule.

The mission of Moya Centre is providing educational and psychosocial assistance to vulnerable youth.

Response

Initially, it was envisioned as a community healing centre in response to the HIV crisis in Eswatini, at a time when ARVs and ART treatment were not available.

According to a newsletter by Director of Moya Centre Ann Huysmans, the centre’s core work remains educational and psycho-social support in the Lobamba Lomdzala constituency with extensions to alumni, short-term tertiary education and strengthening of life skills training and doorsized gardens in the homesteads of sponsored children.

Marwick Khumalo, Member of Parliament (MP) of Lobamba Lomdzala, had previously lauded the centre’s role within the constituency and was previously quoted saying the centre was the pride of his constituency; a vehicle of empowerment for disadvantaged youth and thus it helped to create more harmonious relationships and resourcefulness in a changing world.
