New version of the B58 to be introduced
THE next‐generation BMW 7 Series that has been spotted testing on several occasions may be introducing a new variation of the B58. It’s also understood that an all-new V8 powertrain could be introduced with the new model.
As BMW Blog reports, two states‐of‐tune for the B58 will be provided to the next-generation BMW 7 Series. The 735i is understood to offer a 200kW power output while the 740i will deliver 272kW. These power outputs will then be iltered into the X5, X6 and X7 ranges.
HEAVY REWORK
The publication also states that the lagship 750i will employ an all‐new V8 mill which currently bears the S68 codename. This is an engine that was irst talked about in 2019 and was rumoured to be a heavy rework of the N63 twin-turbopetrol 4.4-litre V8.
The new unit is understood to adopt hybridisation which could give it a power output of 393kW.
A previous report quotes BMW Group CEO Oliver Zipse con irming the next‐generation 7 Series sedan range will be topped by a fully electric variant, leading to speculation the lagship will wear the ‘Mi7’ badge.
During a presentation at the BMW Group’s annual accounts press conference, Zipse con irmed the upcoming seventh‐generation 7 Series range would include an all‐electric option. “The next‐generation 7 Series will be available with four drivetrain variants: petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and fully electric. All drivetrains will be based on a single architecture. And the top, most powerful 7 Series will be fully electric,” said the 56-yearold chairman of the board.
Citing unnamed sources, claims suggest that the new lagship will be called the BMW Mi7, featuring a 100kWh battery, a peak output of ‘at least’ 485kW (compared with the M760Li’s 430kW) and a range of around 640km.
