- BY ANDILE LANGWENYA

MBABANE – Sixers Club player Lindinkosi Zulu believes finally getting the opportunity to represent the country in the cricket national team is a huge honour.

Zulu was recently selected in the 14 men’s cricket national team squad that will be representing Eswatini in the Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Rwanda next month. The player said he was happy to get the chance to showcase his talent on the international stage.

The batsman said he fell inlove with cricket while he was watching international highlights on TV, and then he decided to try watching a full match. “I started being interested in cricket around 2010/11 watching the December test matches played by South Africa. Actually my sisters were into it before I was and we started watching it together. In 2012 I joined UNESWA Cricket, that’s when I started training and playing for the longest time,” Zulu said.

The cricket star further said the sky was not the limit with a group of talented and dedicated individuals who were also capable of showing good performance in the game. “For me, doing what I love, which is cricket plus being able to represent my country in the process, is an honour of the highest order. It’s a dream come true for me and all the guys who made it into the squad,” he said.

Meanwhile, Eswatini Cricket Association (ECA) Operations Officer Mandla Dlamini said as the association they were happy to see that Indigenous emaSwati were now getting more involved in the sport. This was something they wanted for so long.

“It is good to see Indigenous emaSwati coming to the party and embracing this amazing sport, we are looking forward to having more of them in the national team. The mixture of players in the national team will give these young players the much needed experience playing alongside Estean Saurman, Harris Rashid and Naeem Gul would help them learn a lot,” Dlamini said.
