Cheetahs pounce on vaccination drive

MBABANE – Capital city giants Mbabane Cheetahs Rugby Club will lead the way for other rugby teams in the vaccination exercise today.

As the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs launched the Jovel’Industry earlier this month a number of sports clubs started the Vaccination programme for a safe return in sports. Cheetahs’ rugby decided to encourage all their players, coaches, and staff to lead in taking the jab.

Cheetahs Public Relations Officer (PRO) Temacusi Shongwe said they were looking forward to leading the way for all the other rugby teams in this vaccination exercise.

Encourage

“As a team, we encourage all our players and other clubs to take the jab; yes we know that people have their own theories about the vaccine. But as for me, I think we as sports clubs need to lead by example by getting vaccinated before our fans. Yes there are side effects I can’t lie, but they are minor. It depends on a person’s body,” Shongwe said.

She further said if all teams could get vaccinated things would change in the sporting industry because rugby and other sports would be allowed to resume. “I would also like to encourage all the other rugby teams to follow us in taking the jab so we could soon return to play our sport,” she said.

Happy

Meanwhile, Eswatini Rugby Union (ERU) Public Communications Officer (PRO) Phumlani Gumedze said as the union they were happy to see that there were teams under them who thought about their players’ safety.

“Like I said before that if all our teams could accept the vaccine and start getting the jab as soon as possible things might come along soon. We have eight clubs in the rugby league, if all of them decide to vaccinate it means rugby could be safe to return. I’m sure even the government will give us the greenlight in resuming our activities,” Gumedze said.
