I was threatened for my political views – Major V

- BY SETSABILE NKAMBULE

MBABANE – “We are being threatened for voicing out our opinions.”

This was said by Prophet Major V Dlamini following the backlash and threats he got from some social media users.

The prophet had done an interview with Channel YemaSwati, where he was questioned on his stance regarding the calls for political reforms in the kingdom. The interview was aired last Thursday. Major V stated that he did not follow irrelevant things.

“Angimlandzeli umcuba mine,” he responded in vernacular.

Respectful

In an interview with this publication yesterday, when questioned on what he meant by his statement, Major V said he meant that he would not associate himself with people who were violent and emotionally abusive. Major V said there was a more respectful way to go about when seeking political reforms as previously demonstrated by the likes of the late Jan Sithole.

He stated that currently, people were using the calls for democratic reforms to be disobedient and violent towards others who held different views. Major V said although he believed in fighting for the rights of emaSwati, he was of the view that some people were now infringing on other people’s rights by burning their properties and sending threatening messages.

“I have nothing against seeking democracy. I also want freedom and money just like any other human being, but as a man of God, I stand for what is right and truthful. Previously in the kingdom, people like Jan Sithole and Jabulani Nxumalo were in a quest to seek democracy but they were not violent and never insulted or abused people who did not believe in what they we fighting for. It is a firstofitskind that people are now afraid to voice out their opinions,” he said.

The prophet said he would not be part of a group of people who were insulting the King as that to him was a sign of disrespect. He further stated that this was because if the unpalatable words were used against them, they would take offence.

He also warned people against addressing Siphofaneni Member of Parliament (MP) Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane as his majesty. He said this was wrong and ungodly and it was a sign of disrespect. Furthermore, he noted that some people should stop insulting Their Majesties as they were leaders of the country.

Circulated

The recorded interview was circulated on various social media sites. As a result, some social media users issued threats against the prophet for his opinion.

He confirmed that certain people had threatened his family and the church.

“After the clip of my interview circulated, I received many threats from people who threatened to not only burn my church but also to come for my family. They have gone to the extent of calling me in the middle of the night to tell me that my church was burning though this was found to be false,” he said.

Major V further said he had not yet reported the threats to the police as he believed that emaSwati loved him and they would protect him and his property.

He mentioned that he also believed that God would protect his church structure as it was a place where a lot of people went to worship Him.

People on social media expressed their disappointment on the statement which was made by Major V.

Some claimed the statement was made in order to get attention from the royal family.
