- BY MMELI MKWANAZI

MBABANE – The World of Motorsport Swaziland (WOMSZ) Championship round two races were a marvel to watch.

The event was held at the Rider’s Ranch spinning and racing course on Sunday at Sidvokodvo. The show attracted many petrol heads and racers across the country as they competed against each other in the respective races.

On the day, the cars raced according to their classification being two cylinder turbo-charged, four-cylinder non-turbo class, two-litre all-wheel drive, open class and six cylinder.

Included

This included old school cars and modern car models which were modified, especially for the race.

One of the most expensive cars that competed on the day included the Porsche 911 Turbo S, which ranges from over E2 million upwards and a Yamaha R1 superbike worth over E250 000.

This includes one of the championship drivers BMW 1 series which she modified in South Africa for E100 000.

WOMSZ Championship drivers in Terence, Hamza, Jordan, Irfan, Debra, Michel, Wizzy and others were all present on the day as they dueled for bragging rights against each other as there was no prize money, but they were doing it out of the love and passion for the sport leading to the final round of the championship at the end of November.

One of the favourite cars which enthralled the audience that had gathered at the venue included the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the BMW 1 series which won in its classes.

Favourite

The Audi S3 which won ‘Best Modified Car’ at the motorsport event two weeks ago at Esibayeni Lodge was also a favourite among spectators but unfortunately lost out to Championship driver Ursula.

WOMSZ Chairperson Nhlanhla Maphanga said the session was a success as the racers who partook in the first round managed to secure more points leading up to the finale.

“We had different winners in this round which is great since this is a championship. Going forward, I would like to encourage more racers to partake even if they missed the first round,” he said. He said: “It is always interesting and exciting to see new cars coming to participate and compete. It just goes to show that the sport is growing.”

The next and final round for this year of the WOMSZ Championships will be held at the same venue on November 28, 2022.
