… not true that cop was shot dead

-

PIGG’S PEAK – Following the alleged arson at a senior police officer’s homestead, there were reports that an officer had been shot dead.

Yesterday, residents of Ntfonjeni woke up with the shock that a police officer had been shot at the same homestead where a petrol bomb was thrown.

However, it turned out that this was not the case.

The Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati also confirmed that it was not true that a police officer had been shot.

About a week ago, the National Commissioner

(NATCOM) William Dlamini of the police warned that the police will not allow violence to continue.

In a statement issued via the Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, Dlamini said that the acts of violence were disturbing adding that they were perpetrated by elements with an agenda to cause anarchy in the country. “Such incidents are very detestable and cannot be allowed to continue unabated as they cause fear and uncertainty on the safety and security situation in the country,” said the NATCOM.

He condemned a recent incident at the Pigg’s Peak Police Station where police officers were attacked by two ‘gun-toting men’.

He said it was fortunate that there was no bloodshed during the said attacks. He said it was disturbing that one of the attackers discharged a firearm that caused slight damage to the building.

“The motive behind this incident is still being investigated and we are positive that we will get to the bottom of it,” he said

He sternly condemned the acts of violence adding that it was not in the best interest of the country.
