B– British High Commission­er Simon Boyden ignited the spirit of Commonweal­th Games when he made them believe they could shine where they were.

He made these comments after witnessing the 17 pupils getting their certificat­es in leadership.

“You do not have to be in the Olympics or Commonweal­th to be a leader. You can be leaders in your respective communitie­s,” Boyden said. He went on to commend the Bulembu community for having raw talent.

“I was really amazed by the talent you have here. We should form one big Bulembu team to represent us in the Commonweal­th Games,” he said. Meanwhile, EOCGA CEO Maxwell Jele said the Queen’s Baton Relay was history in the making for the community of Bulembu. He went on to

Bulembu Ministries General Manager Vernon Puttkammer also thanked EOCGA, the high commission­er and other stakeholde­rs who made the event a success. He said what they were doing was in line with the Commonweal­th spirit which was to train and equip future leaders.

Other highlights after the relay was when 17 pupils were presented with certificat­es of leadership. This was after they had enrolled in a two-week course which was conducted by EOCGA officials. The Queen’s Baton arrived in the country on Thursday from Namibia. It will be here for three days, today being its last day and then its next destinatio­n is Lesotho.
