Cape Town City fined R100 000

CAPE TOWN – Cape Town City have been fined R100 000, the Premier Soccer League confirmed yesterday afternoon.

Following an incident which happened during their DStv Premiership match against Maritzburg United in Cape Town in December where the Citizens played without the players’ registration cards, the Mother City outfit has been found guilty and fined by the league after the KwaZulu-Natal club lodged a protest prior to kicking the ball on that evening.

Speaking on behalf of the league, the PSL’s prosecutor Advocate Zola Majavu confirmed the R100 000 fine handed down to the Mother City club.

“I hereby provide the update as promised last week in respect of the protest lodged by Maritzburg United Football Club against Cape Town City Football Club. The sanction as determined by the disciplinary committee of the league is as follows: The respondent which is Cape Town City Football

Club is fined R100 000, half of which is suspended for a period of 12 months on condition that during the period of suspension the said club is not found guilty of the same offence and the balance of the 50 per cent is payable within 30 days from today, being the date of the ruling,” said Majavu.

“The PSL is to return the protest fee to the protesting club which is Maritzburg United. Cape Town City is ordered to pay the costs of the DC hearing to the PSL. Cape Town City is further ordered to pay the costs of Maritzburg United on an attorney and own client scale for the hearing of January 12 only,” he concluded.
