PIGG’S PEAK – After stealing four discs valued at E250, a convicted robber will spend a long time behind bars.

Lucky Ndzinisa appeared before Magistrate Vusi Thomo for stealing four discs from Mzwandile Magagula while at Nyakatfo.

The robbery is said to have happened on December 23, 2021.

Mfanasibili Madvonsela, who testified against Ndzinisa, said the two had planned to rob a certain homestead around Nyakatfo.

Madvonsela said they identified the homestead which turned out to be where the victim lived.

Madvonsela said Ndzinisa carried a bush knife when they entered Magagula’s homestead.

Magagula is said to have been sleeping when Ndzinisa pounced on him with the bush knife.

Since it was dark at the time, Ndzinisa is said to have used a torch as a source of light.

He is said to have demanded cash from Magagula. Ndzinisa then saw a blue bag nearby, grabbed it and fled.

However, before Ndzinisa could reach far, Madvonsela turned against him.

Apprehend

Madvonsela said, with the assistance of other family members at the homestead, they managed to apprehend Ndzinisa and handed him over to the police.

According to Magagula, he heard a loud bang and his door was flung open.

He said immediately, a light was shone in his face. He said Ndzinisa hit him with the bush knife while demanding cash. He said Ndzinisa threatened to kill him if he did not oblige.

Ndzinisa pleaded guilty to the charge.

When sentencing him, the magistrate said he noted that Ndzinisa had committed a serious offence.

“As far as the interest of society is concerned, crimes of violence are on the increase,” said Magistrate Thomo.

Ndzinisa was sentenced to six years without an option of a fine.

The magistrate suspended four years of the sentence for a period of four years, meaning that Ndzinisa will spend two years in prison.
