)5A1CE ± )rench President Emmanuel Macron was yesterday inaugurate­d for a second term after his election victory over the far right, facing immense challenges in foreign and domestic policy following a first term which had often polarised the nation.

,n a ceremony at the Elysee Palace, Macron was confirmed by Constituti­onal Council Chief, /aurent )abius as the winner of April presidenti­al election and then signed the formal re-investitur­e document.

Attended by a few hundred people including his wife %rigitte and his only surviving predecesso­rs )rancois Hollande and 1icolas Sarko]y, the ceremony was relatively modest but marked the first time a )rench leader is serving a second term in 2 years.

Her move comes after political commentato­r -- Tabane alleged in an interview that A1C leaders ² including Tito Mboweni, Trevor Manuel, Thabo Mbeki, .galema Motlanthe and Enoch Godongwana ² were responsibl­e for the formation of C2PE in the lead-up to the 2 9 elections.

CAPE T2:1 ± A1C 1ational Chairperso­n Gwede Mantashe has warned against factionali­sm, saying it was tearing the organisati­on apart.

He told delegates at the A1C conference in the Eastern Cape yesterday they must focus on policy and not who will lead the party.

He said it was wrong that each time the party goes into a conference delegates must fight as battles rage over leadership positions.

³:hat kind of an organisati­on is that" %eyond conference­s we must be together. :hen we contest we are not enemies of one another,´ said Mantashe.
