Botswana mishap unfortunate

-

SUNDAY greetings. Top aerobics instructor, Khanya Mavuso, left Maphalaleni folk screaming for more yesterday at Maphalaleni High School. We had gone to Maphalaleni to encourage the people of that area to live healthy lives.

Our day started with an intensive aerobic session, which Mavuso led with a plomb. The people of Maphalaleni were pleasantly surprised to undergo such vigorous training early in the morning. It was a day well spent really, as cultural dances took over later on in the day.

We are about that. We want to see a proud, healthy and winning nation. We will continue to visit all of the country’s areas, especially those that are situated in distant areas. This is what we do. It’s who we are. This is what defines us. We were extremely happy to note that our culture blends well with sports.

We digress.

Sometime last week, we woke up to a screaming headline, suggesting that some members of Team Eswatini were robbed of their valuables in Gaborone, Botswana, over a week ago.

The local athletics team had gone to compete in the track and field event in that country when robbers struck, by breaking into their car. We have been made to understand that the team members lost valuables worth over E20 000 during the theft.

We would like to sincerely express our regret on such an unfortunate incident. These affected athletes should not despair, but should instead soldier on in their quest to be the best in their respective fields.

The team in general did well with high jumper Erikah Seyema winning gold. There is clearly hope for the country going forward. Congratulations are in order to those athletes who did well.

Remember; a majority of them are still in the battle to qualify for the Commonwealth Games, which are slated for Birmingham in the United Kingdom in about three months. They should not allow such a mishap to dampen their spirits.

NOBUHLE YOU BEAUTY

The country’s golfing sensation, Nobuhle Dlamini, has given back to the community in a spectacular way. The South Africa-based lady golfer hosted a juniors’ golf tournament in the country about two weeks ago.

We are extremely proud of Nobuhle, who has not forgotten her roots, despite the fact that she is now enjoying huge success on international stages.

She is an inspiration and the perfect role model to our children. She has shown us that indeed, with determination, hard work and focus, nothing is impossible. We wish her well in her professional career, as she continues to hoist the country’s flag. She is our ambassador and we are proud of her achievements.

REACH OUT TO US

We have never hidden our desire to help our people in all fronts. That is why our organisation always tries hard to reach out to our people, irrespective of the size of that particular sport.

We, at the ESRC have an open door policy. Our recognised National Sports Associations will readily attest to the fact that we are always available and ready to assist wherever possible. Those associations that are still operating in the forest should not hesitate to contact us for recognition. That is the only way they can grow and get to benefit from the government. We are here for our people.

Until next week, sport for all; sports for life!
