Patson beats PM Cleopas to UGI LOL title

MBABANE – Golfer Patson Dlamini returned to his winning ways one year later as he claimed the championsh­ip in the renowned United General Insurance (UGI) Golf Leg of Lamb.

Dlamini topped the scoreboard with a unique 19 points on Friday on the upmarket greens of the Ezulwini Golf Course, clinging the crown and bragging rights as this week’s champion against a field of 16 golfers.

He was closely challenged by runner-up Welcome Mhlanga, who secured 18 points while the Prime Minister, Cleopas Dlamini, beat Peter Dlamini to third place with a countback (c/b) of 17 points.

Also, ambitious 21-year-old lady golfer Nosimilo Kgomo made the cut to the top scorer’s chart with a total 15 points.

Kgomo was in her element best on the day as she also packed the novelty prizes for the longest drive on hole number four and nearest to pin on hole number three.

Unpacking his (Patson) secret after the exceptiona­l performanc­e, the champion said, “I was taking it easy, relaxed and enjoying the game so that’s why I sunk the ball in the direction that I want wanted it to.

It was a good and bright weather. Obviously, you need good practice to score good points and I only practice once a week. I am happy to win the championsh­ip after a long time

UGI Operations Manager Patrick Gamedze, who is also a golfer, congratula­ted all the winners and thanked all participan­ts who joined this week’s golf Leg of Lamb edition.

He also invited golfers from across the country to join the weekly golf experience in a well maintained Ezulwini Golf Course, formerly the Royal Swazi Golf Spa.
