The Eswatini Taekwondo Federation (ETF), will host its first tournament after the COVID-19 pandemic on Saturday at Bosco Skills Centre, where all artists are expected to attend without fail.

This is also the first tournament to be hosted under the new executive that was elected in January.

ETF Secretary General (SG), Sizwe ‘Mshengu’ Mabuza, confirmed yesterday that they were fully returning in action after as they last competed in the country in 2019 during the Confederation of Southern Africa Taekwando

Associations (COSATA) Games.

Sports were disrupted when COVID-19 was detected in the country in March 2020, and all activities were suspended following government COVID-19 prevention regulations being put in place.

Contact

Taekwondo being a contact sport was only allowed to resume action when government eased all restrictions early this year.

“There were few artists who were active and played in tournaments during the COVID-19 era. It is those who went to Mozambique and the Region V games, who were able to play competitively. We are confident that on Saturday all the artists will come, as we are in the process of reviving the sport,” he said.

Taekwondo clubs have only been able to train for the past three years.

Mabuza added that they would also be looking out for artists who can be selected for the national teams. He said they will also be electing their sub-committees.

Meanwhile, ETF is currently under the leadership of Zakhele Dlamini and his vice is Bongani Manyatsi.
