MBABANE – Home is where the heart is. The above adage sounds true for former Moneni Pirates gaffer, Gcina Dlamini as he rejoins erstwhile side Manzini Sea Birds.

The coach tendered his resignation letter to the ‘Sea Robbers’ of Moneni after the 2-0 defeat by MTN Premier League second-placed Mbabane Highlanders at the Mavuso Sports Centre on April 19, 2022. Dlamini joined Moneni Pirates last season.

He confirmed that he has agreed to lead the faltering ‘Izinyoni Zolwandle’ in the remaining games of the current season. The Manzini based-outfit are currently sitting comforatbly in mid-table on position nine on the log with 33 points. “I have joined Manzini Sea Birds, and I am on my way to meet them as I speak and I will be attending my first training session with them later today (yesterday),” Dlamini said.

The coach said his task now was to lead the team in the remaining games of the season, as nothing about the future had been discussed yet.

He said it was an honour and privilege

to be entrusted with the responsibility to lead Manzini Sea Birds again. “I want to thank the management profusely; I hope together with the players and technical bench, we will repay the faith showed in me by them. I must say it shall be team effort and not about Gcina alone but about the team,” he said.

Dlamini said this was an exciting project for him after closing a good and fruitful chapter at Moneni Pirates, where he thought he did well. The ‘Buccanners’ are currently engulfed in the relegation fight, as they are only three points and a place above the drop zone on 25 points. “I would also like to thank the Pirates management, the technical bench, players and mostly the fans for the love and support they gave me,” he said.

He further said after being away in the game for three weeks, he was not expecting to bounce back so soon so he thanked God for the opportunity. “I am aware of the mammoth task ahead and I am equal to the task,” he said.

Dlamini replaces former Coach Christian Thwala, who joins a wagon of coaches that have parted ways with their teams in the current season.

Efforts to get comments from Manzini Sea Birds Chairman Sicelo Mkhonta proved futile as he did not pick up his phone, but replied through an SMS. “I’ll call you back,” read the message.

When called back at exactly 4:15pm, he once again failed to pick up his phone. An attempt was also made to get comments from Coach Christian Tfwala but he also did not pick up his phone at the time of compiling this report.
