- Joseph Zulu

The warder is said to have left a suicide note in a vehicle citing other personal matters that resulted in him to end his life.

NYAKATFO – Constant hounding by microlenders left a warder with an unfortunate option – that of taking his own life.

The warder will not be mentioned as family members could not be reached for comment by 10pm last night.

Impeccable sources revealed that he might have committed suicide on Thursday evening at around 5pm.

It is alleged that he had parked his vehicle along the Buhleni-Madlengempisi Highway and headed into a nearby bush.

Members of the public took notice that the car had been parked there overnight. The vehicle was parked near a place known as Mangozeni around Nyakatfo.

However, according to some of the eyewitnesses, the warder allegedly ran out of his vehicle immediately after he had parked it. He was seen carrying a rope and fleeing towards a bush where he is alleged to have eventually committed suicide by hanging himself.

One of the residents said they did not pay much attention to him because they though he was chasing after a goat as this was common around Nyakatfo. However, upon noticing that he had taken long, they allegedly called the police. It could not be established at what time the vehicle had been left near the roadside.

However, it is alleged that members of the public called the Buhleni Police Post from as early as 6am.

This resulted in some of the members of the public alleging that he may have left the vehicle during the night and then allegedly killed himself moments after doing so though he was only discovered several hours later.

More members of the security forces including warders were later seen searching for him after some residents pointed towards the direction in which he had gone. However, the search is said to have been organised a little too late as by the time they located him, he was already dead. Jack is also said to have left a suicide note in the vehicle, citing other personal matters that resulted in him ending his life. It is alleged the warder had people calling him over some money he had borrowed. The warder is said to have been based in Mbabane though he was originally from Herefords near Buhleni.

ProblEms

Money problems are suspected to have been the main cause of the suicide as Jack allegedly confided to some of his friends, including a police officer about his money problems. He is alleged to have indicated that he would end his life as the debts became overwhelming. Some of the people he allegedly owed are also said to have called on the day of the suicide.

The Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, confirmed the matter.

She confirmed that a 39-yearold man from Herefords committed suicide according to a report from the Buhleni Police Station.
