M– Eswatini is among five African countries that have recorded the highest number of new COVID-19 cases.

The country is also the third highest when it comes to daily infections at 54, after Seychelles (420) and South Africa (107).

This is the average number of new cases per million population­s per day.

In the past week alone, Eswatini had 445 new cases which placed it at number four after South Africa (45 625), Zimbabwe (568) and Tunisia (485). Namibia is on number five with 408.

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported in its weekly analysis that the Southern African region continued to lead both in new deaths and new cases.

Eswatini has been listed together with South Africa as countries that have reported a test positivity rate higher than 12 per cent this week.

For this reason, South Africa (SA) has recorded a 57 per cent average increase in new cases while the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya cases increased by 17 per cent and eight per cent respective­ly.
