“This second edition of the conference is expected to help further Africa CDC’s mission to ‘strengthen Africa’s public health institutions’ capacities, capabilities, and partnerships to prevent, detect and respond quickly and effectively to disease threats based on science, evidence-based policy, and data-driven interventions and programmes’.”

Malandela’ Legacy Fund launch was held at Malandela’s in Malkerns. The fund is a brainchild of the parents of the Thorne brothers, namely (Jiggs, Roland and Sholto), who pioneered the initiative. The fund was established to honour Peter and Jenny Thorne.
The first speaker at the launch was Lobamba Lomdzala Member of Parliament Marwick Khumalo who expressed his gratitude to the family.
“This fund will help the community of Lobamba Lomdzala. The Thorne family saw it fit to create this fund to give back to the community; as evidence that they are united as a community and we are very grateful,” he said.
He further went on to say that the fund is worth E40 000 and there is a chosen committee from Lobamba Lomdzala that will manage the fund.
Beneficiaries of the MTN BUSHFIRE Festival like Young Heroes were present to express their excitement with the return of festival after two years.
Nicky Mlangeni said that there are about 200 000 Orphaned Vulnerable Children (OVCs) in the country and since the festival is back it will help them.

and Young Hero’s started in 2007, fast forward to 2018 the partnership focused on supporting OVC’s from the Lobamba Lomdzala inkhundla.

She also thanked the Lobamba leaders for supporting them all these years and commended them on the work they have done.
“Through this initiative they have managed to support 37 families which have 46 children, with cash grants amounting to E110 000 which is then distributed as E400 per month,” she said.
Jiggs Thorne expressed his excitement about launching the fund. “Today we are extremely excited to launch the Malandelas Legacy Fund, it’s a fund that was inspired by our parents, and it’s basically spoke to the philosophy of being part of the community in which they lived.
“The Legacy Fund is basically an annual fund that will be contributed by Bushfire towards the Lobamba Lomdzala community which will be E40 000 annually looking to see social developmental dynamics within Lobamba Lomdzala.”
He further went on to say that, as a family they are happy to continue with the legacy that their parents started.
