MBABANE – It seems like citizen arrest is becoming common in the country as yet another man was assaulted by a mob and surrendere­d to the police after a robbery that was committed at gunpoint, at Mahwalala.

The 35-year-old man was heavily assaulted by the mob and is currently admitted to the Mbabane Government Hospital, while his two co-suspects fled the scene after robbing a man of Asian origin money and items amounting to E12 500.

The suspect, who was in possession of a 9mm pistol with an empty magazine, was arrested on Saturday at around 7pm.

According to a police report released yesterday, two other suspects fled the scene. Police are appealing to members of the public to come forward with informatio­n that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.

Emergency

Any informatio­n about the incident could be forwarded to the Mbabane Police or through dialling the 999/9999 emergency toll-free line.

Meanwhile, police arrested and charged a 44-year-old man of Ndunayithi­ni for being found in possession of a 9mm pistol with a scratched serial number and 12 live rounds of ammunition without a licence or permit while at Sibayeni at Logoba.

The suspect will appear at the Manzini Magistrate­s Court.

On another matter, Mankayane police arrested and charged an 18-year-old man of Lushikishi­ni for being found in possession of dagga weighing 12kg without a licence or permit while at Lushikishi­ni area.

The suspect will appear at the Manzini Magistrate­s Court.

The police also reported that 16 people were held for driving while under the influence of alcohol over the weekend.
