BIG-BEND – Tambuti are clinging on for dear life as they claimed three points from Denver Sundowns yesterday afternoon at Mayaluka Stadium.

With only three games remaining before the curtain falls on the MTN Premier League, the relegation threatened Tambuti are now sitting on 23 points. Tambuti’s victory lifted them from the basement as they moved up above Malanti and Tinyosi.

Both teams displayed zeal and hunger for victory in the first half, which ended goalless due to wasted scoring chances and good saves by the goalkeepers. Tambuti turned the tables in their favour upon return to the second stanza and it was Siboniso Shiba who broke the deadlock after he headed home past Lwethu Simelane in 11 minutes into the second half, resulting from a cross from Lindelwa Simelane. Tambuti capitalised on Sundowns’ frustration . Tambuti Head coach Clement Mdluli’s second half substitute Mbusiseni Motsa, who filled in the void left by Roy Mamba, stretched the lead to 2-0 in the 77th minute. Motsa bolted from the centre line and fired a grass-cutter into the back of the net in a one-on-one showdown against Sundowns’ goalkeeper. With a knock on Mike Dombo ruled out of the game pending recuperation firm a knee injury, a goal seemed illusive for the Manzini based side who are still not entirely safe from the relegation axe despite having bagged 28 points in 27 games.

Subistute Langele Dlamini’s collaboration with Mbutfo Mthethwa failed to yield positive results until referee Thembinkosi Dlaminis blew the whistle to confirm Tambuti’s 2-0 victory.
