Doja Cat celebrates four wins

-

LOS ANGELES - While the biggest winners such as Olivia Rodrigo and Kanye West weren’t in attendance, Doja Cat celebrated with four Billboard Music Awards, winning two in person on the live telecast in Las Vegas.

Rodrigo was the night’s biggest winner with seven awards for her first BBMAs, with 54 of the 62 awards announced before the telecast started at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Other big winners were Kanye West with six awards, Drake with five, adding to his all-time most Billboard Award wins with 34, and The Kid Laroi, who won his first five awards for his song with Justin Bieber, Stay.

Doja Cat took to the stage first though, winning the first award on the telecast, though fans were left confused when Top Female Artist wasn’t announced as planned.

Doja Cat won the first award for Top R&B Artist for her album Planet Her, beating out GIVĒON, Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars, Anderson Paak), Summer Walker and The Weeknd.

“Wow. We did it! We did it! Thank you guys so much. I want to thank my fans again and yeah, I’m very grateful and I’m excited to see more people win,” she began.

“It’s just wonderful to be here tonight with everybody, and, yeah, thank you, mum and, yeah, that’s it,” she concluded. Megan Thee Stallion took home the second award of the night, winning

Top Rap Female Artist, beating out Cardi B and Latto.

“Okay! Okay, apparently actually, real (censored)... They say what you curse. They didn’t say that thank you you all so much,” Megan joked.

“Thank you to the hotties without the hotties, there would be no hot girl coach and I really appreciate y’all for, you know, running it up all the time we got to get up here and thank God,’ she added.

She also thanked her mother and grandmother, adding, ‘and I want to just say all the ladies up in here look very, very beautiful here tonight.’

“Everybody in this category is a winner and I feel like we all been working so hard all year, we’ve been working hard for a long time.

“And it’s just so nice to be appreciated and recognised by your peers and celebrated by your peers and celebrated by your supporters. That’s all I got to say. Thank you!” Megan concluded.
