Queen B presses theft charges

-

JOHANNESBURG - Media Personality Bonang Matheba’s relationship with a Zimbabwean businessperson, who was a former associate ended on a bitter note when she opened a case of theft against him in March.

In a police statement, which City Press has seen, Matheba accused him of stealing her documents and attempting to obtain a visa for her without her consent.

In the statement, which is currently being investigated by the Midrand police, Matheba described him as someone she used to work with. However, a source close to both of them claims that they had a brief romantic relationship.

“The complainant alleged that one Tuesday, March 15, she received a call informing her that someone had used her personal documents while trying to apply for a visa for her without her consent,” the statement read.

The businessperson is facing a charge of theft, which according to the statement – was committed ‘using hands’.

“The suspect who used to work with her is in possession of her personal documents,” it read.

The source claims that the charges brought against the businessperson were not valid, as the businessperson had been planning a romantic vacation to the UK had eventually ghosted Matheba.

“He doesn’t want anything to do with her. He blocked her everywhere on his phone a long time ago,” said the source.

According to him, Matheba and the businessperson had begun dating later last year, shortly after she returned to South Africa from a one-year stay in New York. Soon after she had opened a case against him, he had been summoned to the police station to answer to the charges laid by the star. The businessperson, said the source, was able to show the police that he had obtained her personal documents legitimately.

“When he got there, he explained himself to the police officer. The good thing is that everything was there in emails – the back and forth organising of the trip, which showed that he hadn’t stolen her documents,” said the source.

“The police officer even advised him to open a counter charge, but he chose not do so because he doesn’t like being in the spotlight. He’s a very private person.”

The pair allegedly had a short and relatively private relationship, with traces of their love only documented in a blog when Matheba surprised him with an expensive Louis Vuitton birthday gift at a restaurant earlier this year.
