- BY PHOLSILE HLOPHE

MBABANE – Mbuso Mdluli has successfully defended his Previc Golf Challenge championship.

Mdluli defended the title he won in April by being the champion for the May tournament played on Saturday at the Mananga Golf Course.

The second-time champion aced an outstanding 39 points on count back, compared to last month’s winning score of 40 points.

He was among 50 other amateur golfers who were privileged to play alongside 10 professional golfers, including Raymond Mathonsi, Meshack Zwane, Peter Dlamini, Nicolas Vilakati and Oscar Dube among others. The exuberant defending champion hinted on feeling pressured to defend the championship for the third time, to cement his dominance of the monthly event that has seven more editions remaining. He thanked Previc Director Victor Masilela for the E85 000 sponsorship. “I started playing golf in November 2019. It’s a first to have a golfer successfully defending his championship and the pressure is on me now to fight for the third win. We played well despite the mushy ground after the intense rain showers experienced on Thursday. I am excited and looking forward to the next edition. I owe it all to lots of practice. I am at the course for at least one hour every day after work and only get game-time on weekends,” Mdluli said.

Mananga Golf Club Captain Wandile Simelane was the runner-up after securing a solid 39 points. He was closely challenged by Vusi Dlamini on 37 points. Sabelo Simelane fell into third place with 36 points c/b and Sifiso Zulu made the cut on the top scorers sore chart with a total of 36 points.
