MBABANE – The vacant position left behind by Eswatini Olympics and Commonwealth Games Association Board member Muriel Hoffer will be filled in the upcoming by-elections.
This announcement was made by EOCGA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Maxwell Jele, following the resignation of Hoffer who reportedly returned to her home country, South Africa, a month ago. Hoffer is one of the longest serving EOCGA members, having diligently dedicated her services to the association for over two decades. The former member’s resignation, according to Jele, was made effective last weekend during EOCGA members’ two-day retreat.
Jele said EOCGA members would be notified of the date and time for the by-elections. He said the by-elections would be gender-based in order to ensure that they met the 30 per cent female quota in the executive Board composition. He said the vacant position would be filled by a lady.
“Muriel Hoffer is one person who contributed immensely in EOCGA. We thank her for her dedication over the years and we will always remember her strong character and independent nature, thus she was nicknamed ‘Iron Lady’. She served under the late President David Sibandze and we want to honour her in the next EOCGA Awards ceremony,” Jele said.
He said the Executive was still working on the logistics of the by-elections.
