Pupils find school gate locked, graffiti inscribed on walls

- BY THOKOZANI MAMBA

SITEKI – Chaos erupted again yesterday morning at Nkalashane High School when pupils found the school’s gate locked, with graffiti messages written on the concrete wall by the gate, resulting in the suspension of lessons.

Some pupils arrived as early as 6am to find the gates locked and were made to wait for almost two hours until some residents arrived and broke the padlock at around 8am.

A pupil disclosed that three police officers from the Lomahasha Police Station attended to the scene and blurred the graffiti messages.

Homes

The pupil said after the rain subsided, they took their schoolbags and resorted to returning to their respective homes.

It is alleged that some pupils are aggrieved by the return of a certain teacher and are further calling for the release of the incarcerated Members of Parliament (MPs) in Hosea MP Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Ngwempisi MP Mthandeni Dube.

It is believed the pupils actions were discussed on their WhatsApp group.

Worth mentioning is that this is the second incident in a space of a month whereby the pupils locked the gate and demanded answers as to why the head teacher carried a gun to the school.

The school’s Head teacher, Ceaser Cuamba, asked not to comment on the matter and abruptly ended the conversation.

Lubombo Regional Education Officer (REO) Richard Dlamini confirmed the matter.

He said his office would arrange a meeting with the teachers, pupils and parents to find a lasting solution to the matter.

The Minister of Education and Training, Lady Mabuza, said she would institute investigations into the matter.
