Heads of State to reflect on terrorism, unconstitutional change
SIKHUPHE - His Majesty King Mswati III, through the PM, Cleopas Dlamini, will be among the heads of State who will reflect on terrorism and unconstitutional change of government.
The PM, who will be representing the King in the African Union (AU) Summit to be held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea tomorrow and Friday, said the assembly would be a presentation of the reports of the Chairperson of the Commission on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government.
Moreover, he said there would be a presentation of outcomes of the meeting of Chiefs of Intelligence and Security Services in Africa and unconstitutional changes of government consolidated actions to strengthen constitutionalism and democracy.
“There will be consideration and adoption of the Malabo declaration and decisions on terrorism and unconstitutional changes of government,” the PM said.
Thereafter, he added that they hoped this summit would bring a lasting solution to the standing issue of terrorism and unconstitutional
change of government that plagued the African continent. He said such acts had been seen in Northern Mozambique.
According to the AU website, the objective of the forum is to reflect on the phenomenon of unconstitutional changes of government (UCG) in Africa, with the aim of proffering enduring solutions to the problem.
Outcome
It said the expected outcome of the forum would feed into the AU Extraordinary Summit, and is anticipated to propose strategies and content for the drafting of an additional protocol to the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance.
Furthermore, it said the forum would also produce a comprehensive document that would take into account the gaps and issues not covered in the current AU instruments and policy actions on unconstitutional changes of government.
Worth noting is that currently, there is an unrest in the country and members of the democratic movements are demanding political reforms – multi-party democracy, to be specific.
